Meet the Team

Trey Ferguson

Pastor

Trey enjoys walking beside people in their journeys of faith. A questioner by nature, he’s fine with holding the minor things loosely as he pursues the way of Jesus with reckless abandon.

Having earned a Master of Divinity degree from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University, he holds the rich traditions of the historic Black church and Black theologians near & dear. His goal is to honor those roots in the church of the future.

In addition to serving as a pastor in The Intention Church, Trey serves as the Executive Pastor of The Refuge Church in Homestead, Florida. He lives there, in the southern portion of Miami-Dade County, with his wife (Jessica) and their three children. When he’s not theologizing or ministering, he enjoys visiting zoos, aquariums, botanical gardens, and all of the places he can see all kinds of life.

Trey regards love as the commitment to wholeness, and is therefore committed to your wholeness.

Jessica Townes

Associate Pastor

Two words to describe Jessica A. Townes are jovial and joyous. The Midlothian, VA
native is affectionately known as “Jess” or “Jessie.” Jessica’s ministry experience
includes working with youth, young adults, adults, social media, and running the
soundboard.

Jessica currently serves as an associate minister at Garland Avenue Baptist Church in Richmond, VA under the leadership of Dr. Jeffrey O. Smith. She graduated with a BS in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University (2011) and earned a Master of Divinity from The Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University (2014).

Jessica works as a case manager in Richmond. In her not-so-abundant spare time, Jessica enjoys watching basketball (WNBA and NBA), listening to music, writing, reading, shopping for sneakers, and playing guitar.

Lisa Humphries

Director of Pastoral Care

Lisa lives in the mountains of California with her husband and three kids, whom she homeschools. Lisa is pursuing an online bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies at Cal State Chico and plans to enter a chaplaincy program after she graduates. When she’s not homeschooling her kids or working on her own school work, Lisa enjoys reading, watching movies with her family, and relaxing (with a book) by alpine lakes and rivers while her crazy husband and kids swim in the freezing water. Lisa also enjoys cooking, baking, and eating and is bound and determined to try the Eggs Benedict at every restaurant she visits.

Holly Bishu

Director of Justice & Communications

Holly is committed to live a life of kindness and justice as she walks in the way of Jesus. Constantly thinking, she enjoys asking questions of the Biblical text in order to get closer to a liberated faith, one that is of good in our world.

With a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History, and a Masters of Arts in Christian Thought, Holly is convinced that the Church must continually adapt to meet the needs of the people. Having worked in youth ministry for over a decade, she considers herself a Gen Z expert and desires to create safe spaces in the Church for the next generations to ask questions.
In addition to her ministry experience, Holly co-founded Canada’s 2nd Black Lives Matter chapter and has been involved in shaping youth ministry across Canada and the United States. She believes deeply in community and that we are called to care for one another. She is also a deep believer in restorative justice, and considers herself an aspiring abolitionist.
For fun, Holly watches K-dramas, reads books, and spends too much time talking to her internet friends… who are now her ministry partners and dear siblings. Oh, and she is always down for a good conversation or a recommendation for french fries.

Jessica Ferguson

Administrator

Jessica resides in Homestead, Florida, where she earns her living as a Special Education Teacher for Miami Dade County Public Schools. She holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in psychology from Florida International University and Southern New Hampshire University.

She is a licensed minister at The Refuge Church and enjoys listening to her husband (Trey) theologize throughout life, watching their three children grow old, and finding new pathways to recreation.

Tim Amor

Co-Conspirator and Advisor

Tim serves as the pastor of Linwell Church. Tim was born and raised in Burlington, Ontario, and has most recently served as the pastor of Summit Street Church in Nebraska. He is fond of playing guitar, playing board games, science fiction, good coffee, and he remains a loyal fan of the Toronto Raptors and Blue Jays. Tim and his wife Jen moved to St. Catharines in 2023, and have two happy kids and one grumpy cat.
